Peeling the onion

I don’t believe in personal development. Not anymore.

I mean…

Sure, there are things to learn. Every day. I love that.

But it’s not personal growth. It’s just adding data, and our body-mind system adapts its behavior to the new set of data.

It’s not changing us, though. Only the layers on top of us.

Here’s how I see it:

When we’re born, we’re pure.

No name.
No beliefs.
No history.

Just… us. Crystal clear consciousness.

Then we’re given a name, an identity. Beliefs are handed over to us without us being able to examine them. We live things, and we interpret them based on how people around us react, and on the beliefs we’ve already absorbed.

It’s like we’re at the center of an onion.

From the moment we’re born, layers are added on top of our true essence and end up filtering its expression up to the very way we see ourselves. We identify with the onion, not recognizing that we’re not the onion.

So no, I don’t believe in personal development anymore.

There is nothing to add.
There is a lot to remove.

It’s all about peeling the onion.
